I was not overly impressed with Spade and Denise’s story。 I felt the pair worked too hard at keeping the other at arm’s length rather than communicating and sharing their lives。 It bothered me that Spade couldn’t even explain his over-protectiveness to Denise， leaving the job to Bones instead。 More than anything though， there was no chemistry。 Sure it's written， but you don't really feel like it's true。 The fact that I never liked Denise didn't help。 She's a whiny heroine， that is obsessed with I was not overly impressed with Spade and Denise’s story。 I felt the pair worked too hard at keeping the other at arm’s length rather than communicating and sharing their lives。 It bothered me that Spade couldn’t even explain his over-protectiveness to Denise， leaving the job to Bones instead。 More than anything though， there was no chemistry。 Sure it's written， but you don't really feel like it's true。 The fact that I never liked Denise didn't help。 She's a whiny heroine， that is obsessed with repeating tall the faults of things。 "He's spending too much money helping me。" "I want nothing to do with the supernatural world。" "I was a wimp and a chicken and I let everyone get killed。" Boo Hoo。 However， there were some definite highlights to the story， especially revolving around what happens to Denise。 I enjoyed the story that overarched the romance， and the dual POV added a lot to the book。 I think Frost should stick with 3rd person POV because， unlike in her main Night Huntress books， I did not have issues with her writing in this one。 There are still multiple repetitions and it still isn't anything spectacular， but it didn't bother me。 。。。more

This was a fun and quick paranormal read with vampires and demons。 Sometimes I just want some smutty scenes with a vampire and I got it here。 The characters were fun enough to follow along and I enjoyed the audiobook because I thought the narrator did a great job。

First drop of Crimson is a fantastic addition to the Night Huntress world。 I enjoyed learning more about Spade， and was more than happy with the inclusion of some of my favourite characters。 Denise is in trouble， and after attempting to contact most of her Vampire contacts， she rings Spade and thus begins their adventure， and what a tense adventure this is。 The narration was once again to a really high standard， my once criticism is that Tavia Gilbert occasionally slips from posh Brit Spades voi First drop of Crimson is a fantastic addition to the Night Huntress world。 I enjoyed learning more about Spade， and was more than happy with the inclusion of some of my favourite characters。 Denise is in trouble， and after attempting to contact most of her Vampire contacts， she rings Spade and thus begins their adventure， and what a tense adventure this is。 The narration was once again to a really high standard， my once criticism is that Tavia Gilbert occasionally slips from posh Brit Spades voice， to the more cockney accent of Bones。 It didn't detract from my enjoyment。 。。。more

Found it was a very good book。 I enjoy the Night Huntress world， but was getting a little tired of the Bone and Cat story。 So， diving into the world again through Denise and Spades perspective was really interesting。 First Drop of Crimson is also good just as a standalone。 Nothing in the book required you to have read the previous books in the Night Huntress series to understand context。
